Assuming you have read FAQs and know what HR Unconference is all about, here you will find the guidelines and responsibilities of a role of a track leader.
Why be a track leader?
Being a track leader puts you in front of and in the middle of the brightest and most innovative minds of today’s HR industry- recruiters, both internal and agency, executives, your clients and suppliers, HR tech vendors and developers, HR managers and consultants, headhunters and employer marketers. You can get as much or as little as you want from this experience- we provide a platform for people to meet and discuss in person. The benefits include networking, exposure to the leaders in the industry and self-development, not to mention a rewarding time spent and inspiration.
Who typically leads the tracks?
Usually it is someone who has experience of the discussion topic he wants to lead and is often thought leader in the industry. He or she is passionate about the subject and wants to learn more about it from the discussion with the other bright minds in the industry.
What does the role entail?
Track leader is not in charge, they moderate, facilitate the discussion and keep it alive with ideas and questions to the audience. Tracks can go off in any direction and often the best insights are offered by the participants themselves, people who perhaps don’t normally get the spotlight at these events but who have great insights to offer or just really interesting questions to ask. So it is a great way to learn and get new ideas, in a short period of time. The role of the track leader is to lead a one hour “track” on a chosen topic which typically involves 15-25 participants sitting around in a circle with the track leader opening the discussion with a 3-5 minute background on her topic and then opening the idea/ topic up for discussion within the group. For the next 55 minutes anyone can share stories, contribute, offer an opinion, ask questions or even direct the conversation into a different topic.
How do I choose a topic?
Topics generally revolve from hiring to firing, from social recruiting to employer branding, passive talent acquisition, onboarding, cool new HR tools, big data analytics, etc.- YOU name it! It should be something you’re interested in and passionate about.
Like #hru is not a conference, track leader is not a key-note speaker
So there is really nothing to be afraid or worried about- the format of the unconference is such that it is very participative and you will not have to speak on a stage for an hour- it is more of a coffee break in a conference kind of thing, where you get to network, share ideas and get inspired.
